How Do We Choose the Book?

Prior to the 2007-2008 school year, the members of the English and Theatre Arts Department nominated books to consider for the common text, and then used a majority vote to determine the winning selection.

Starting Fall 2007, ALL members of the university community—including all EUP faculty, staff, and students--with a valid campus email address may nominate a text! Tell us the title and author(s) of any book you wish to nominate, describe it briefly, and give us a few reasons in your own words why you think this text would be worthy of being selected. Also on the form is a checklist of 17 criteria that experts think make a text worthy of being selected; mark a check by any of these expert criteria that fits your particular selection. When you are finished with the form and click the SUBMIT button, a pop-up screen will appear for you to fill in the domain name and your username (e.g., eup\w889220a)  and then your password. This safeguard authorizes the form, ensuring that only EUP faculty, staff, and students make nominations.

The deadline for nominations for the next year’s text is typically about Feb. 1, but as we get closer to this deadline, you will hear announcements on the Weekly Messenger and on this web site for the exact date. Meanwhile, you may start nominating!

After the nomination deadline, the members of the Common Text Committee will prepare a ballot for the English and Theatre Arts Department faculty who will make the final selection and announce it to the University community at large.
