Mission Statement of Common Text Program

           The purpose of the common text program is to:

·      create a shared academic experience for each set of first-year students;

·      broaden students’ awareness of diversity;

·      keep students alert and engaged as readers;

·      encourage and guide students’ interactions with books; and

·      enrich students’ reading experiences by interacting with the themes of selected books in a variety of ways.

         Through reading a common book, discussing it with other students and faculty, and engaging intellectually with a particular topic inside and outside the classroom, students will increase their involvement with the academic environment,  become a more integral part of the Edinboro University experience.  and reap greater success as students, community members, and educated individuals.

          Each year a different book is selected to meet these objectives.
