Legal Requirements for Homeschooling in PA
Here's what to do each year:
 

Before August 1st

Submit to your School district office:
  • Affidavit, signed and notarized sample affidavit
  • Objectives for each subject for coming school year sample objectives
  • Proof of immunization, if you haven't submitted it, or religious exemption form
 

During the School Year

Keep the following ongoing records:
  • Record of school days - 180 days is required by law
  • Log - a day-to-day record of the student's assignments keeping a log
  • List of books and resources used
  • Samples of the student's work
  • Record that child has received required medical services required medical services

*If the child is in 3rd, 5th or 8th grade, he or she must take an approved standardized test. approved standardized tests

 

 
Near the End of the School Year

Prepare a portfolio containing your ongoing records (exclude medical records).

Have your child evaluated by a qualified evaluator. requirements for evaluators

 
Before June 30th

Submit to your school district office:
  • Portfolio
  • Copy of evaluation letter
  • Standardized test scores if required
